The size of the bow (approx. 220–240 cm) depends on the archer’s draw length. The bow consists of several layers and splices of bamboo and wood. Modern bows also have fiberglass or carbon fiber reinforcements.

The attire consists of a shirt, belt, kilt, and socks. On special occasions, archers shoot while wearing a kimono. Men leave their left shoulder bare, while women tie the kimono sleeves up and wear a chest guard. The target is a wooden ring covered with paper, 36 cm in diameter.
